Some conditions can actually prevent a patient from eating or make it difficult to swallow food/medication, which may call for a feeding tube. The PEG procedure is performed by inserting a feeding tube into the stomach through the abdominal wall. A small incision is made on your abdomen on the left side, then a flexible tube (also known as a catheter) with a flared tip or balloon attached is inserted.
